POEM
A beautiful poem by Prof Lee Tzu Pheng (Singapore Cultural Medallion winner). She was formerly in the English Literature Dept in NUS . This is a powerful poem on human friendship, n loving one another.
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Sip your Tea
Nice and Slow
No one Ever knows
when it’s Time to Go,
There’ll be no Time
to enjoy the Glow,
So sip your Tea
Nice and Slow.
Life is too Short but
feels pretty Long,
There’s too Much to do, so much going Wrong,
And Most of the Time You Struggle to be Strong,
Before it’s too Late
and it’s time to Go,
Sip your Tea
Nice and Slow.
Some Friends stay,
others Go away,
Loved ones are Cherished but not all will Stay.
Kids will Grow up
and Fly away.
There’s really no Saying how Things will Go,
So sip your Tea
Nice and Slow.
In the End it’s really
all about understanding Love
For this World
and in the Stars above,
Appreciate and Value who truly Cares,
Smile and Breathe
and let your Worries go,
So Just Sip your Tea
Nice and Slow."
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
When I'm dead.
Your tears will flow
But I won't know
Cry with me now instead.
You will send flowers,
But I won't see
Send them now instead
You'll say words of praise
But I won't hear.
Praise me now instead
You'll forget my faults,
But I won't know.....
Forget them now instead.
You'll miss me then,
But I won't feel.
Miss me now, instead.
You'll wish You could have spent more time with me,
Spend it now instead
When you hear I'm gone, you'll find your way to my house to pay condolence but we haven't even spoken in years.
Look for me now.
*"Spend time with every person around you, and help them with whatever you have to make them happy, your families, friends and acquaintances.*
*Make them feel Special because you never know when time will take them away from you forever.*
Alone I can 'Say' but together we can 'Talk'.
Alone I can 'Enjoy' but together we can 'Celebrate'
Alone I can 'Smile' but together we can 'Laugh'
That's the BEAUTY of Human Relations.
We are nothing without each other
So Stay Connected!
useful sites for cefr spm
Hi teachers and friends, I was browsing to search for some information and came across useful sites which can help our SPM candidates with all the 4 four skills.
All the practices are autocorrected and students can get instant feedback. That's what fascinated me. I just tried all the 4 skills. Speaking test was interesting as it has a time metre for each question and they have several parts too, aligned with our CEFR SPM. Lately, I noticed many teachers are struggling to help students in SPEAKING SKILL especially during this MCO. I think these sites will help our students to improve.
Just like the WRITE and IMPROVE site, which I had shared before, students can practice all 4 skills and get instant feedbacks.
THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY FREE... IM NOT A CAMBRIDGE REPRESENTATIVE OR SELLING ANYTHING. 😂 I saw the sites and like a happy baby, saved them and sharing with friends here. Let's prove to the society that MCO will not limit us (TEACHERS) to help our students to excel in English.
Here are the sites links:
1. SPEAKING SKILL
2. WRITING SKILL
3. READING SKILL
httpsw://www.cambridgeenglish.org/learning-english/activities-for-learners/?skill=reading
4. LISTENING SKILL
https://www.cambridgeenglish.org/learning-english/activities-for-learners/?skill=listening
TEACHERS, PLEASE TRY ON YOUR OWN FIRST, SEE HOW IT WORKS. They are very straightforward.
If I come across more helpful sites, I will share.

CONJUNCTION, COMPOUND SENTENC
Lesson Fifteen https://www.learnamericanenglishonline.com/
Conjunctions
| Conjunctions are useful in putting nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and clauses together when making sentences. There are seven coordinating conjunctions: and, but, or, nor, for, yet, so. |
examples
I like to eat cheese and crackers. Use “and” when putting two or more things or people together in a group. | ![]() cheese and crackers |
Hockey is a fun sport, but sometimes you can fall and hurt yourself. “But” is a word that shows contrast or differences. Hockey is fun, but it is also a little dangerous. Fun but dangerous |
fun but dangerous |
Would you like to eat a hotdog or a hamburger? “Or” provides you with a choice or a decision. |
a hotdog or a hamburger
|
She eats neither hotdogs nor hamburgers. She prefers vegetables. “Nor” is the negative form of “or.” It’s often used with “neither.” …neither…..nor….. | ![]() not a hotdog nor a hamburger |
He went to prison, for he had killed someone. “For” is very similar to “because” and “since.” This is a difficult conjunction to use. It sounds very formal. | in prison for having killed |
It’s cold outside, yet these boys don’t want to go inside because they are having so much fun. “Yet” is similar to “but.” In this usage it’s not the same as the “yet” which is used to express time. |
cold yet fun |
She saw a spider, so she became afraid. “So” is similar to “because” and “for” but you can’t use the word in the same position. The same sentence above could be written: She became afraid because she saw a spider. |

CLAUSE AND PHRASE

A clause has a subject and a verb, but it may or may not be a sentence. Some examples: Because he likes the house. This clause has a subject (he) and a verb (likes) but it lacks the main part of the sentence. However, it’s okay as an answer in a conversation. Also, avoid beginning a sentence with "because" unless you put two clauses together, such as…. Because he likes the house, he decided to buy it. This is okay. In the Orange Level you will learn about many different kinds of clauses. A good knowledge of clauses will help improve your writing and speaking. There are two basic kinds of clauses.
An independent Clause has a subject and a verb and it can stand on its own, serving as a complete sentence. A Dependent Clause has a subject and a verb but it can not stand on its own. It needs an independent clause. Before I went to school, I ate some breakfast. Dependent clauses often begin with words such as before, after, while, during, when, because, if, etc. Knowing how to use clauses will provide more options for you to express yourself. You can also say…. I ate some breakfast before I went to school. —————————- A phrase is a group of words that does not have a subject and a verb. For example: in the morning This phrase tells us when something will happen, but there isn’t a subject, a person or a thing, and there isn’t a verb describing activity or existence. Here’s how to fix it: I go to school in the morning. Phrases are very important in English because they provide necessary information, as the examples below (with phrases in blue) demonstrate. |
|---|
Here are some examples of phrases:
The children are playing in the sand. "…in the sand" tells us where the children are playing. We could write the sentence like this: The children are playing. This is a good sentence but the phrase in the sand provides important information. |
|
|---|---|
| The table in the dining room is very long. |
|
A: What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekend? B: Playing guitar. (Playing guitar is my favorite thing to do on the weekend. A response that doesn’t have a clear subject or verb is a phrase. Many people use them in conversation, and that’s okay.) |
|
WHAT IS A SENTENCE
A simple sentence has a subject and a verb and completes a thought. For example: She went to the store. (subject = she / verb = went) However, some people choose not to use a subject, as in this example: Question: Where did she go? Answer: Went to the store. "Went to the store," is not good English. If you want your English to improve, avoid making this kind of mistake. Always try to use a subject and a verb when making a sentence. In this exercise you can practice identifying subjects and verbs in sentences. Starting with simple sentences in this level, we will study sentence structure and if you go through all of the lessons in order, hopefully, your writing and speaking will get better. |
|---|
Here are some examples:
| She’s afraid of spiders. |
|
|---|---|
| She loves her baby. |
|
| He’s sitting on the ground. |
|
| The bridge fell down. |
|
The vacuum cleaner is working. |
|
He eats rice with chopsticks. To improve your writing, try to keep your sentences short like the ones shown above. Until you become a better writer, this is a good approach because you’ll have more control over what you want to say. |
